Vickilea Eggen’s contribution, “Moon of The Wild Horse” draws you into the beautiful night sky expanse, lighting a lone horse by full moon. Her work alone is worth the trip to Ellis, but there are other fine photos as well. “I couldn’t believe the beauty of this ‘A-ha!’ moment, yet I only had just begun shooting photos. I’d been here for 19 years, and it never snowed like that,” Kolb-Smith said. “I was so cold that day and it was so quiet - no one was out. One class in black and white film at Butte College, and suddenly, it snowed.” I had been a musician in a band, and because we didn’t have any money, I needed to shoot photos of the band. Kolb-Smith is very humble about the work. The photographs were taken during the sizeable snowfall in Chico in 1987 and they imbue the spirit of enchantment and the warmth of the holiday season. Some of the most beautiful pieces in the show are from Karen Kolb-Smith. It is free and available to the public at all times. Fellow photographer Theresa Renfro has organized the show. This month, Ellis Art Studio (Ellis Art & Engineering Supplies, 122 Broadway St.), is showcasing interesting work from the “Shutterbug Photography Group” in their Chico storefront. But access is just one of the necessary ingredients for compelling work. Given the exponential increase in accessibility to cameras, you might imagine a similar rise in finding great photographers. When you book your sitting with Shutterbug, A £30 deposit is required to secure your time slot in the Studio and this will go towards whatever you choose from your sitting. When it comes to choosing your images, there are a range of products including prints, canvases, acrylics and also images on USB. From your sitting you will have approx 35-40 different images to choose from. You are encouraged you to bring a change of clothes for your wee ones, to give you even more variety from your Photoshoot.
